Belgian Sheepdogs have been a significant factor in my life since 1960. I have shown successfully in conformation, dabbled in obedience, and embarrassed myself in herding. I have yet to attempt agility and tracking and am in awe of the accomplishments of others in these fields. I breed my Belgians occasionally with my focus on temperament and am very proud and pleased with the accomplishments of my puppies and their families. I have fostered local rescues and assisted in placing all in loving homes.
I have been a member of the BSCA since 1973 and was honored to become a Lifetime Member last year. I am a member of the Whidbey Island All-Breed Kennel Club, the Cascade Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, and am the current President of the newly formed NW Belgian Sheepdog Club here in the Pacific Northwest. I am currently a BSCA Board Member, Chairman of the General Education Committee, a member of the Judges Education Committee, and a judge/peer mentor. I am the liaison to the BSCA Website and communicate with our webmistress extraordinaire on a regular basis. I am a registered AKC CGC Evaluator and run the CGC tests during the Whidbey Island KC shows each fall. I have presented educational seminars on structure and movement for the BSCA. When I was involved with the Puget Sound English Springer Spaniel Association I held the position of Corresponding Sec’y for several years. I was a field trial secretary, a field marshal, a bird planter, and was Women’s Field Handler of the Year, twice.
I have been a ring steward in conformation and obedience for all-breed shows and specialties, and for American judges and foreign judges. I have exhibited in Canada. I have judged Sweeps at our National in 2002, and Sweeps for the Evergreen Belgian Tervuren Club Regional Specialty in 2002. I have had my share of mortifying mishaps in the ring and stupendously wonderful highs. It has been a wondrous adventure to say the least.
In my previous life I was the Senior Illustrator for an international environmental and geotechnical consulting firm. In my present life, I’m trying to survive a teenaged daughter.
The BSCA has had its share of highs and lows over the years and we are once again on the upswing to becoming a unified force thanks to the dedicated efforts of the membership and the officers it has elected. The Mission Statement developed in 1999 by our esteemed current President and Board is an excellent beginning and guide for the clubs continued progress and success. Communication and support among the membership and the Boards responsiveness to the membership is paramount to our future. We have a membership full of multi-talented individuals just craving the opportunity to promote this multi-talented breed to it’s fullest with new and exciting endeavors. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time of service with the BSCA Board and thank the membership for their faith and confidence in the abilities and talents that I have to offer. I may not have many years of experience as President but I am confident that with the support of the membership and the officers they elect I can continue to help guide the BSCA to future success and solidarity.
